Daniel "2Forty" Voltz
TRIATHLETE
(World 70.3 Ironman Competitor September 2014)
I had what I call an ‘ideal childhood’. I grew up in the small country town of Kyogle, with four older brothers and one older sister. It was because of this that I learnt to be fast from a young age (‘Survival of the Fittest’ at its extreme). When we weren’t out running around the paddocks we were riding our bikes or swimming in the river. It’s funny how at the time you never realise how these activities will benefit you later in life. To us it was just play
Throughout my schooling I always loved competing in swimming and athletics. In fact representing my school at state and regional level in both sports. As well as volleyball and basketball.

I have always been involved in sport, but it was not until my daughter Jacqueline was born that I decided to reignite the passion for high level competition that had laid dormant since leaving school. Initially I returned to competitive running 5km, 10km, Half Marathon and Marathon Running. Competing at various National events (e.g. Melbourne Marathon, The Australian Outback Marathon and Gold Coast Marathon). I then was introduced to Mountain Bike Riding by a close friend (Luke Trevenar) which rekindled my enthusiasm for bike riding. I soon became interested in road bike riding and loved the ability to cover large distances whilst on a bike.
Being a resident of the fantastic town of Port Macquarie enabled me to be a volunteer at the Ironman Triathlon events. I have been a volunteer every year since it had first been conducted in the town. Initially I watched the event and thought these people are crazy. However year after year my interest in the sport slowly grew. It wasn’t until during the Ironman event in 2012 (the year of my 40th birthday) that I had a life changing moment. I said to myself, ‘you can run, you can ride, you used to be able to swim………surely you can give this a crack”. The very next day I signed up to do my first Ironman 70.3 Triathlon. This gave me 6 months to learn the sport of Triathlon. My biggest concern was my swimming. It had taken a back seat for a number of years and to say I was rusty would be an understatement (swimming 100m was a challenge). I trained hard and managed to do one smaller club triathlon before the big race. To say I love this sport would be an understatement. It has been totally life changing. I entered my second Ironman 70.3 Triathlon in October 2013 and have been fortunate enough to qualify for the World Ironman 70.3 triathlon in September 2014 in Canada.

To say I've got where I am on my own would be a huge understatement. Simon Turnbull and the team from Enriched Health Care have worked their magic on me on many occasions, ensuring I am fit and healthy to perform at my best. It is with thanks to their expert care that I have been able to compete at my optimum at all the events I have entered. I look forward to continuing my association with this fantastic team and look forward to sharing my journey with them. I truly value their confidence in sponsoring me and endeavour to represent them well.
I would also like to thank my family, my friends and my coach (Melinda Cockshutt from Her/His Coach). The journey forward would not be as rewarding without you all.
